The Canadian Silver Maple Leaf

The Canadian Silver Maple leaf is a silver bullion coin issued by The Royal Canadian Mint since 1988. It is offered in only one troy oz denomination though other denomination are occasionally offered as part of a coin set or as single issue. The .9999 fine silver maple leaf coin is the purest silver coin currently in regular issue and the one ounce version carries a face value of C$5, the highest among all silver bullion coins.

The obverse designs features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, there are three versions of the effigy showing Queen Elizabeth II at different ages. The reverse depicts a static design of the Maple Leaf, on some variations there are also a small privy mark on the lower half of the coin. The coloured Maple Leaf version carries a different design of Maple Leaf.

Like the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, though the silver Maple Leaf comes in static design, it has many interesting variations including the proof (only issued in 1989), privy marks (many different designs), coloured maple leaf and holographic Maple Leaf (5 Coin Set – 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz, 1/20 oz).
